Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave is a highly effective treatment modality, commonly used in the rehabilitation setting, that uses high energy acoustic waves to accelerate the body’s healing process. Shockwave can be used in the chronic, sub-acute or acute stages of healing. Its main benefits include pain relief, accelerated tissue repair and cell growth, dissolution of calcifications and mobility restoration. Common conditions that have strong research to support the use of shockwave therapy include; heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, achilles and patellar tendinopathy, chronic tendinopathy, calcific tendinitis, muscular strains, myofascial pain, boney pathologies (stress fractures/non-union fractures), skin ulcers/wounds etc. To ensure the benefits of shockwave therapy are realized, it is recommended that a patient undergoes a series of shockwave sessions over 1-week treatment intervals. This modality is used in conjunction with rehabilitation exercises to maximize patient outcomes
